South Africa's president is facing the possibility of impeachment in a long-running scandal known as Farmgate. It involves the disappearance of over half a million dollars from Cyril Ramaposa's luxury farmhouse, which was stolen in a break-in in 2020. Ramaphosa is accused of serious violations and misconduct, and the Constitutional Court has lifted an earlier ruling that blocked proceedings. He denies any wrongdoing.

Artificial intelligence is no longer just a Silicon Valley debate: it’s becoming part of Africa’s creative revolution. In Nigeria, filmmakers and digital artists are experimenting with AI tools to create films, archive disappearing oral histories and imagine new African futures. Obinna Okerekeocha, founder of Naija Artificial Intelligence Film Festival, and filmmaker Malik Afegbua, use AI to preserve fading oral traditions by creating digital archives. They spoke to us in Eye on Africa.

Also, Sudan is ramping up accusations after a series of drone strikes, including an attack on Khartoum airport: it says the drones came from Ethiopia and were supplied by the UAE. Also, 518 people killed in the post-election violence that followed last octobeer presidential election in Tanzania that is the official figure issued by a government-appointed commission of inquiry. And, the 4th edition of the Marrakech African Literature Festival is underway, under the banner "imagining other possibilities".

Also, Pope Leo wraps up his first major international tour with a Mass in Equatorial Guinea. And Congolese music star Fally Ipupa marks 20 years in the industry with new albums and concerts in Paris.

In today's programme: Pope Leo XIV is in Angola, where he slammed exploitation and corruption by the rich and powerful before 40,000 faithful at an open-air mass in the city of Saurimo. Also, the Congolese government and the M23 rebel group say they have agreed to ease humanitarian aid deliveries and release prisoners within 10 days. And in Mali, more than a thousand people flee across the border into Mauritania, seeking safety from armed groups.

It's Day 5 in Africa for Pope Leo XIV. In the midst of a pause in the ongoing violence in Cameroon, the pontiff headed to Douala to celebrate a mass. Also, it's now more than 48 hours since journalist Million Beyene disappeared without a trace in Ethiopia. Plus literature takes centre stage in the French capital as Paris hosts the fifth edition of its Book Festival. Among the standout voices is Cameroonian writer Djaïli Amadou Amal. She gave us a message to pass on to young women.
