DR Congo's World Cup dream has come to an end after the Leopards lost to the Three Lions during a nail-biting game on July 1. Despite having a 1-0 lead in the first half of the game, DR Congo was disqualified after England's Harry Kane scored two goals in the second half. But fans aren't too disappointed, as it was the first time in decades that DR Congo was taking part in the tournament. FRNACE 24's Selina Sykes tells us more from Boston.

Algerians are heading to the polls on July 2 as voters are set to elect their new parliament. To increase voter turnout, the day has been made a public holiday and public transport is free. Authorities want a better turnout than during the last elections, where only a quarter of voters went to cast their ballot. FRANCE 24's Claire Paccalin tells us more about the key concerns on this election day.

Protesters are blaming migrants for unemployment and crime, a claim challenged by President Cyril Ramaphosa and human rights groups.

The country's largest psychiatric referral hospital is welcoming back a former patient who's helping others in their recovery by offering grooming sessions to help them boost their self-esteem.

In an interview with FRANCE 24, DR Congo's government spokesperson and Minister of Communication Patrick Muyaya accused Kigali of not having the "political will to implement" the 2025 US-brokered peace deal between the two countries. Muyaya also called for stronger international pressure on Rwanda. "The United States should use more tools on Rwanda (...) It's not enough yet," he stated.

Mbiyozo argues that while public frustration over unemployment, inequality, corruption and failing public services is genuine, migrants have become convenient political scapegoats rather than the cause of these structural crises. Drawing on migration data, governance failures and labour market realities, she contends that anti migrant narratives persist not because they are supported by evidence, but because they offer politically expedient explanations for complex problems.
